Sharing and Storage of Knowledge
For our homework we have been asked to look at how we share, store and find out infomation in every day life and so for the past fortnight i have been keeping note of how i do these things. Firstly i started by looking at how i found out knowledge for our different homeworks.
I found myself looking at two main websites: Wikipedia and Direct.gov. These are both very interesting and different sites. Everyone knows Wikipedia and obviously most people use it but there is a lot of criticism about it saying that some of it is false (because its a wiki) although from my experience this is wrong and i find it very useful. Then theres Direct.gov this is a very reliable site as it is run by the government but there is a lot of text on it and it is sometimes hard to find the key points. But using both of these sites i can get a good knowledge of almost any topic.
Then i looked at how i found out random information. I realised that i almost exclusively used answers websites, these include yahoo answers, Answers.com. These are very useful because they have an incredible database of answered questions and if you need to find something out you can ask it and in my experience it gets answered pretty quickly.
Finally i looked at sharing and storing information. I realised that at the moment i have several different devices that i store info on. I use my ipod, phone, computer, ipad, whiteboard, hand and my memory. This seems very confusing and i realised that i should try and cut it down so from now on i am trying to just use my phone and laptop for important information. But then i thought about how i would access my laptop when i was away from it. So i googled it and found a website called accessmycomputer.com. This is an incredible website where you link it up to your computer and then when you go onto the website from another computer you can log in and it will turn that computer into your laptop with all your files, games and notes. So i signed up for a 2 month free trial and so far i have found it incredibly useful.

The gaming industry is one of the biggest in the world at this present point in time and is ever growing with recent releases of the Ipad 2, the 3DS and hundreds of new games ever year. This for me makes it very interesting as there is always something new to look at. The one game that has taken my interest over the previous month has been Portal 2. Portal's come a long way since it was bundled alongside Valve Software's Half Life 2 in the Orange Box way back in 2007. It became an instant hit with top websites praising it for ingenuity, humour and creative ability, it was said to be 'like a good teacher - it makes you feel smart'. Not bad for a 3 hour long game.
The object of the game is to create portals that will zap you to otherwise unreachable parts of the crazily imaginative rooms. Although a lot of features are the same as the original in the sequel there are far better graphics, much more gameplay and the voice of oggly eyed comedian Stephen Merchant as your robot. There are also many new puzzle tools are far better level design, in the second instalment in the series, including funnels, springboards, vacuums and gels that can turn surfaces into trampolines or ice rinks... oh and deadly lasers, a staple ingredient in any good game. And on top of all of this they've made it multiplayer both co-operatively and online.
So overall I feel it is vast improvement on the old game and although i have already played it i look forward to owning a copy myself.
Portal 2 comes out on April 22 on Xbox, PS3, PC and Mac (i would advise Xbox or PSC as the controls on the PC and Mac aren't as good)

Mash Ups and Remixes
Now i'm obsessed with mash-ups and remixes and so i decided to do a blog about all of my favourite ones that i have found.
Firstly this is a mash up of 4 different songs: Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Greenday, Wonderwall - Oasis, Sing For The Moment (which samples Aerosmith's Dream On) - Eminem and Writing To You - Travis. This is a very well constructed mash up that sounds even better than the original songs.
Here it is
Then we have another one of my favourite remixes. This one is special because it take two songs that i don't think anyone would link together and it sounds incredibly good.
So here is Gold-diggers 5th Symphony (sorry about the quality of the video)
Then we have the remixing of normal speech. These can be incredibly good songs of very funny. So here are two of my favourite ones, the first was part of the presidential campaign and the second one has over 72 million hits on Youtube.
Obama is never gonna give you up
THE BED INTRUDER SONG!!!
Then you get the remixes. Here is one of my favourites. This was from the Futureheads when they went on Live Lounge and covered a classic Kate Bush song.
The Hounds Of Love (Accapella)
And then finally we come to Comedy Remixes. This is an incredibly funny remix made by a friend of mine and the 'Gap Yah' guy.
Newport State Of Mind
There was a lot of trouble over this song as well because Jay-Z's record company tried to sue them which meant they had to take the video down. *whisper* but everyone just copied it and re-posted it *whisper*.
Also one funny thing about this is that even though it is a remix itself people have remixed it again.
Firstly there was the video
You Are Not From Newport
And more recently Comic Relief covered it by making a video using the original track but getting almost every famous Welsh person to mouth to the song
(did you know that the 'Go Compare' guy is Welsh!!!)
So that is my guide to Mash Ups and Remixes

THE WATERLESS WASHING MACHINE!!!
Now, I know this sounds crazy but yes... it exists. The British company Xeros will be launching their new machine this year in the UK. For basically the same price as a washing machine you can buy a contraption of similar stature that with a mere glass of water uses Nylon Polymer beads to remove stains and dirt from fabrics. And the best part is that its quicker than a washing machine and the clothes come out virtually dry so theres no need for an expensive dryer. I think this is a great, fantasmagorical machine that we will be seeing a lot of in the near future.

I'M DOING MY PRESENTATION ON CHUCK
my ICT presentation is on the American t.v. show CHUCK. It is a reasonably new show starring Zachary Levi (pictured below). I have chosen it because it is based around computers and hacking and programming so it has taught me a lot about highly advansed technology.

here are some links to chuck related pages
IMDB about Chuck
Wikipedia about Chuck
if you wnat to do coding as well as me check out this website. great coding website

P.s. This took a very long time and I worked out how to code in pictures, alter their sizes and code in links.
